Did I mention these containers are for MY back to school supplies? Let me explain ;) Nope, I’m not going back to school, but I feel like on some level, I have to organize myself and have a small stack of essentials in my kitchen to adjust to the new routine back to school season brings.
The wood books will keep “my” supplies organized and hidden from the hands of my kids, who love to use my stationery supplies. With these containers I will keep my stuff handy and accessible just for me ;)
Eeekk, I love getting organized, and beautiful containers make it extra exciting to tackle the usual: “Where is a pen? Did you grab my notebook? Where is the list I made last night?” etc. Now that I have my supplies organized, I will save time and be in a better mood ;)
Materials:

DIY Back to school supplies containers
I chose these wood book boxes because they are easy to display or stack. I’m still deciding how I will arrange then in my kitchen.
One box is for scissors, tape, sharpener, flags, etc. Items I use on a regular basis when I clip ideas from catalogs or “bookmark” articles from books.
Having pens, pencils, and highlighters all in one place works for me. I’m a list maker ;)
I’d like to think that I’m going to write “thank you” notes on a regular basis. So now I’m prepared to have my thank you notes handy in one place.
The design for my containers falls in a color palette of white, pink and teal. I’ve used the same colors for a DIY binder and other containers.
- Mask the book diagonally and paint the bottom part of the box with pink acrylic paint. Wait for the paint to dry (20 minutes) and then add a second coat of paint.
- Mask the pink area and paint the other side of the box with white acrylic paint.
- Spray the box with a matte varnish to protect the paint from scratches and stains.
- Mask the second box diagonally and use a teal color. Wait for the paint to dry and then add a second coat.
- Mask the blue section and paint the top of the box with white paint
- Spray the box with a matte varnish to protect the paint from scratches and stains.
Mask the opposite side of the box (the bottom) and paint the entire area with blue paint.
- This step shows how I painted the opposite side of the box with blue paint.
- Here I’m showing you how I masked the sides of the box.
- Add a second coat of paint.
- Peel the mask off and admire your creation!
I’m beyond happy with how my new school supplies containers turned out! The front of the boxes have a diagonal color blocked design, and the opposite side of the boxes have a solid block of paint.
