May is mental health month
Hello you! How are you today? I’m doing OK, but sometimes I don’t feel OK. Soooo, I was inspired by these feelings and the fact that May is mental health month to design a note card and acknowledge these emotions.
I believe we are living in a culture where we should feel like “doing it all.” “Do what makes you happy.” “Go for it.” “Pursue your dreams.” I could go on and on. There is nothing wrong with these phrases. But what is challenging is ‘how” these cultural messages make us feel.
All of us are a different stage in life, have different personalities, come from different backgrounds, and the way we “absorb” the “can do everything” cultural messages is critical for our mental health.
I’m no expert on mental health by any means, but I choose to take care of my mental health through physical exercise, medication, vitamins and a support system of family and friends. It is a luxury to be able to take care of myself. However, I go through phases when I neglect to do all of these and believe “I can do it all,” and should be able to get my sh*t together without any help.
Does this make any sense? Thoughts? While you think about this, I’m sharing with you a notecard design “It’s OK not to be OK” I think the first step to good mental health is to acknowledge that IT IS OK, NOT TO BE OK. And stop pretending we can do it all or should be doing all.
You can download and print my notecards and put them up at home or the office or wherever you’d like. The notecards are designed to fit an AVERY notecard template . Or you can print them on thick cardstock paper and then cut them into mini postcards.
As always, I’d love to hear from you under comments ;) Download my notecards card here. (For personal use only.)
Until next time!
