DIY Swans Tea Towels

Happy beginning of the week! It’s the end of the day and I’m using my last bit of energy to write this post and show you how to make a swan rubber stamp. Wait, I’m going to make a rubber stamp? Yes!

DIY Swans Tea Towels Materials:

  • Yellow Owl Workshop rubber stamp kit
  • Assorted ink pigment for fabric
  • White tea towels

DIY Swans Tea Towels Tutorial

DIY Swens tea towels

  1. Use the template I made and download it here.
  2. Open Yellow Owl’s Workshop rubber stamp kit and set the materials aside
  3. Use the rubber mounted block provided in the kit and transfer the swan icon using vellum paper and pencil.
  4. Carve the outside of the Swan, with the carving tools provided in the kit.
  5. The goal of carving the outside of the swan is to create the surface of the swan to “stand out” of the rubber stamp block so once you add ink to the Swan, the rubber stamp will transfer the swan icon on the tea towel.

Aren’t these tea towels fun? Carving rubberstamsp is quite therapeutic ;)

DIY Pineapples Tea Towel Gift Wrap

2015/05/04

DIY Pineapples Tea Towel Gift Wrap

DIY Pineapples Tea Towel Gift Wrap

What are the best gifts for Mother’s day? I don’t have the answer to that… But I do know that you can make any gift pretty and extra special with this DIY pineapples tea towels gift wrap.

To make these tea towels, you’ll only need three items, a muslin towel, pigment ink for fabric and a pineapple rubber-stamp.

DIY Pineapples Tea Towel Gift Wrap

Aren’t PINK pineapples even more fun?

Tutorial

mothersday_wrap_tutorial01

  1. Use one muslin tea towel made of 100% cotton. I found mine at my local Ben Franklins craft store. You may also find one here.
  2. Pigment ink works great for stamping fabric. I used ColorBox Crafters pigment ink in “Sweet Pea.”
  3. Make sure you have a firm surface before you start stamping. I placed a white poster board underneath my tea towel, in case the ink went through the fabric.
  4. Grab the pigment ink pad, and tap the rubber-stamp until it is fully covered with ink. Begin stamping away.

DIY Pineapples Tea Towel Gift Wrap

  1. Cover the tea towel with pineapples, either in a grid or a random pattern.
  2. I used a white cardboard box to put my gift inside. This way, the pink pineapples would stand out more.
  3. Important step: before you use or give away the tea towel, use an iron to “set” the ink. You can also put it in the dryer for 30 minutes. Once you do this, the ink will be permanent.
  4. Place the box in the middle of the tea towel.
  5. Voila wrap the box and secure it with baker’s twine.

Admire your creation and wrap your gift!

Or fold it neatly and give your craft as a gift too.

Make Cute Bunny Tea Towels with Only 2 Materials

2015/03/25

bunny_towel_box_herov5

As spring is approaching, our “resident” bunny from our yard, made his first appearance, and my daughter went nuts! She got a little teary eyed when she asked me: “Do you think a bunny, could live in our house? I would make him feel at home and feed him well.” My heart melted.

Unfortunately, I don’t see any pet bunnies in our near future, but we can enjoy many bunny crafts and with Easter coming up, bunny projects abound on Pinterest ;)

My little project took 30 minutes or so, not including “drying” and “ironing” time.

kraftmint_tutorial_bluemuslins_v5

  1. You will need one muslin 100% cotton towel, “Sei tumble dye” in blue and one thin brush.
  2. Begin sketching a bunny on any piece of paper and once you are comfortable with your drawing, dab your brush in a little bit of the dye. “Tumble Sei” dye comes in a small bottle with a spray. Pour a little bit of ink in a cup and then draw away. (Don’t try to add any water to the ink because it will make it very runny and hard to draw with.)
  3. Let your muslin towel dry for at least two hours. Then, use an iron to “seal” the ink. You can also throw your bunny towel in the dryer for 30 minutes if ironing is not your thing.
  4. Make a few extra and give them out as Easter gifts!

I’m off to go to sleep and super thankful that I had the time to share this project with you! If you’d like to see more ideas like this one via email, please click on the “follow kraft&mint” button on the right hand column.

Make Printed Muslin Tea Towels with Aha Arts by kraft&mint

cyan_muslin_teatowels

If you enjoy crafting, you know how addicting one type of project can become! In this case, this is my third tea towel design ;)  This time; I used clear stamps and pigment ink for fabric. Could I get an extra two hours a day just to sip coffee and make these at my leisure?

I discovered the clear stamps I used during an outing to Paper Source. They are made by an american company called AHA arts. So far, I would like to purchase their entire line of products…

Design Beautiful Tea Towels for Holiday Gifts

2014/11/17

kraft&mint tea towels with handmade charlotte stencils

Tea towels are a wonderful gift to receive and give. This craft is very rewarding and fairly simple to achieve. I’m a little addicted to making these after I tried my first tea towel craft last month.

kraft&mint tea towels with handmade charlotte stencils

Materials

  • Handmade charlotte stencils in “Woodland”
  • Muslin towel
  • Gold paint for fabric
  • Foam brush

“Oh I could never make this…” Yes you can! View my tutorial below.

Design Beautiful Tea Towels for Holiday Gifts

kraft&mint tea towels with handmade charlotte stencils

  1. For this craft, you will need two unbleached muslin tea towels, fabric paint in gold, Folk Art Handmade Charlotte Stencils “Woodland” and one foam brush.
  2. Begin by securing the stencil onto the muslim towel with tape. Then dip the foam brush in the fabric paint. Before you start applying the paint, tap the brush on a piece of paper to remove a bit of paint prior to starting painting your towel. Then slowly start tapping the foam brush onto the towel. Repeat this process twice until the entire shape is fully painted. Set aside to dry for one hour.
  3. Once the paint is dry, and you are happy with the results, you can use a blow dryer to “set” the paint or place the tea towel in your dryer for 20 minutes or so. The heat sets the paint.
  4. Fold and package your creation with bakers twine and a cute gift tag.

The stencils I used came with so many designs, it was hard to choose just two.

Gold and white are one of my favorite color combinations. I was inspired by the Pacific Northwest misty and foggy Fall mornings. The weather is changing fast, and leaves are turning gold. Use a foam board or a firm surface and secure the towel with masking tape (top right photos.) Start “painting” the towel with soft strokes in a circular motion. Let dry the paint for 24 to 36 hours. Wash on delicate cycle and dry for 10 minutes.

I’m thinking of making a few of these for teacher’s gifts or gifts for my neighbors. This project is one craft you must try; I was so relaxed after finishing painting the towels and can’t wait to make a few more.

Friday Finds kraft&mint - Floral styles for fashion and home decor -ShopOLDsoulVingtage

When it comes to flowers, they lift up my mood and make me happy! I’ve been compiling for you a few “finds” with floral styles for fashion and home decor.

These picks range from clothes to artwork, home decor, and accessories. My first find is a 70’s Italian dress with a green+ pink color palette and white collar. I’m beyond tempted to purchase this dress, is very decently priced too.

Beautiful tea towels screen printed with water-based green, pink, and yellow ink on natural linen. I would never use it but display it as a piece of artwork ;)

Friday Finds kraft&mint - Floral styles for fashion and home decor - octopurse

I want this clutch purse so bad! Just looking at it, I can’t stop smiling; it is beyond cute. Found it at an Etsy store called “Octopurse.” Need to say more? The name is perfect.

Are you inspired by my “Friday Finds?” I don’t care if this floral trend stays around or not, I will always love florals, bright colors, pastels colors and whimsical patterns with modern designs.

kraft&mint Blog Hop Handmade Gifts Tutorial for white leather bracelet
Today I’m  participating with 15 other bloggers on a Handmade Christmas blog hop. I’m honored to be part of this project! Please read about my blog hop experience below and don’t forget to check out the 15 amazing handmade ideas all the blog hop participants designed to share with you!

kraft&mint Blog Hop Handmade Gifts Tutorial for white leather bracelet

Hello! A couple of months ago, lovely Havala from “Sisters, What!” blog invited me to be part of the “Handmade Gifts” Blog hop. I love creative exercises such as this. The only “rule” for the bloggers participating in the blog hop was to make a handmade gift.

So I went for it and designed a simple leather bracelet with a “statement” stone. Ever since my first project using leather, I’m semi in-love with this material and crafted a couple of leather accessories.

Please take a look at the tutorial I’ve put together for you. With the right tools, this bracelet is very easy to put together. Even if you haven’t made a piece of jewelry before, if you can measure and cut a few strips of leather, you are well on your way to making these bracelets.

You will need a soft leather hide in white, statement stone beads, white leather cord, pliers, crafting glue and long silver pins. Begin by cutting 12 inches by 2 inches rectangles of white leather. Cut rectangles in four strips, (1/2 inch wide). Fold the ends of the strip and make a hole with a screw punch. Apply glue between the folded “ends” of the strips. Put these aside and let glue dry for an hour or so.

Put a pin through a statement stone bead and make and twist the pin to create a small “loop.”  The top of the pin has a “loop” already, so once you twist the other end of the pin you’ll have a “loop” on each end. Set your stone bead aside.

Measure six inches of white leather cord and put it through one end of the leather strip’s hole and one end of the bead’s loop. Make a knot and secure knot with glue. Repeat the same process with the other bead’s “loop” and leather strip.

Enjoy your new creations and maybe keep one for yourself?

Get ready for out of town guests – DIY Welcome Basket

2015/11/16

Getting organized with cottonelle

The holidays are approaching fast, and I started thinking about a couple of guests coming to visit. When it comes to hosting a family member or a close friend at home, I’m pretty laid back and I try not to over-schedule my guest but keep things more spontaneous.

It would be nice, though, if I was a little more prepared for an unexpected visit. Thankfully, I was inspired by my partnership with Cottonelle Megaroll’s 4-rolls- in-1 efficiency to design a simple solution and be more hospitable.

Get ready for out-of-town guests – DIY Welcome Basket

Getting organized with cottonelle

I brainstormed about putting together a simple “welcome guest” basket. Then I thought to myself, If I were going to stay at a relatives’ home or close friend, I would love to skip having to ask where to find fresh towels, bedding, etc. Instead, if there were a spot where I could find the usual necessities, I would feel very much welcomed. So I came up with a list of necessities for a welcome basket for a future guest.

Welcome basket(s)

  • Fresh towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Bedding
  • That’s it!

And I didn’t spend hours putting these containers together. 15 minutes tops.

Getting organized with cottonelle

I had two spare grey containers that I needed to put to good use. Then I went through my stationery supplies and picked two wooden tags. First I thought of using a wood burning tool to label my tags, but then I played with letter stickers I’ve collected during my crafty years and made these tags in no time.

You can spell anything you’d like on the tags, but plan for a short word in order to fit them all in one wooden tag. Or you can get smaller letters and go from there.

Getting organized with cottonelle

Big thank you Cottonelle Megaroll  4-rolls- in-1 efficiency, for inspiring my “Welcome Basket” idea.
