Parties: {Aqua and Pink Princess Party}

2013/06/17

The day finally came and went by so fast! I prepared for my daughter’s 4th birthday party for several weeks.
I worked on it at night, a little here and there and it came together really nice! Here are the highlights + tips of what worked and didn’t ;) Most party supplies found at “Shop Sweet Lulu.”

1) Princesses arrive: Photo Booth

photoSummary:

1) The photo booth castle backdrop was a FUN project! First I searched for a free clip art image of a castle. Then I imported this into “Acorn” (a FREE desktop app to manipulate images a la Photoshop).  Then I had my 300 DPI file printed at Kinkos for $9! I got this idea from Pinterest of course. I had my castle print mounted at Ben Franklin for around $25. Once the artwork was mounted I added the bling to it. Lastly, I faked a “photo corner” look with 4 light pink paper triangles each pasted to the 4 corners of the print.

2) The cake took a long time to make. I used three layers of cake from  a 9″ inch round pan. I googled “how to frost a cake” and found out I needed parchment paper below the cake before frosting it. This kept my new cake stand  free of extra frosting. Speaking of the cake stand, which I’m in love with, a local Seattle artist makes these. Her name/company is “Rossana Inc” and her designs are absolutely gorgeous and very well priced.

3) I made the cupcakes the night before the party. I had two very different cupcake toppers and on one set of toppers I used an aqua tulle tied around the topper. This looked great BUT once I placed the toppers, the tulle got in the way of the frosting… For the second set of toppers I made a party flag topper with the word “princess”. I designed the party flags in photoshop and had them printed at Kinkos.

4) The dessert table turned out exactly as what I pictured in my head. I found the perfect backdrop at Amazon for $14. Then I wished I had made the princesses! This in an adorable product from the brand “Meri, Meri”. They are designed to be balloon holders. I used them for the balloons and also used one princess for the cake topper. I added a little bit of tulle around the princess and hid the wood stick holder inside the gray and white chevron paper straw.

5) Other details:

(a) Meri Meri Princesses are from Amazon.

(b) Aquamarine paper cups, paper plates and wood utensils are from Shop Sweet Lulu.

(c) I found aqua and pink pinwheels at Ben Franklin.

(d) I made custom cupcake liners at Ben Franklin’s die cut center.

(e) Princess party flags will be available for sale once I open my Etsy shop ;)

(f) The party favors were another fun project. I bought paper machie boxes at Ben Franklin. Then I used two sets of washi tape and glitter tape to decorate them.

Thank you for reading!
