Where do you usually put your cell phone away at home? Do you carry it around everywhere with you? Or do you have a special place for it like a dock? I usually carry it around with me and end up misplacing it. In the evenings before I go to bed I place it on my night table, but lately having my phone too close to me while I’m asleep, semi-freaks me out. All those cell phone “waves” too close to me can not be a good thing, so I thought of making a home for it. What do you think? I originally bought an unfinished wood box at Ben Franklin for my daughter. But, being the awesome mom I am, I “borrowed” it for a craft. She keeps asking me where is her “special” box… “Mommy will replace it soon!” Please take a look below at how I put this together. It was fairly easy and SO much fun to make!!!
Tutorial
First, you will mask your wood box with masking tape and apply 1 layer of paint. Wait until it dries completely to apply second layer. Once two thirds of your box is painted and dry, mask the very top of your box and then apply 1 layer of paint to the lid. Wait for 30 min for paint to dry and apply a second layer. I am listing the materials below and where you can find them.
A Home for your Phone Materials:
- Unfinished wood box from Ben Franklin craft store
- “Ceramcoat” White Acrylic Paint also found at Ben Franklin
- Gold Glitter Tape found at any craft store or Amazon
I was pretty happy with the way it turned out! Then I remembered I had a set of rub ons feathers I hadn’t used yet. I was unsure whether the feathers would stick to the paint. Luckily, the rub ons worked great and they added the perfect final touch to my new cell phone home. Please take a look below and let me know your thoughts!
I couldn’t resist and made a matching notebook! You can find these little Kraft notebooks at the 1$ section of Ben Franklin. Please take a look:
Here are both crafts all finished. I can never have too many notebooks around! I hope you enjoyed reading this. As always, I enjoy hearing from you and your comments are such an encouragement.

Oh my gosh, I LOVE it! Kraft, crisp white, glitzy gold, can it be any better? What if you painted the edges of notebook pages with gold paint to give it a gilded look?
Btw, it was great to see you at the store the other day! I was having a rough day and you and another favorite customer were just the reminder I needed of why I love my job! So thanks for being awesome!
Thank you Rachel! I love seeing you at Ben Franklin! People like you makes this place a million times more special ;)
