{ Thank you Craftistas for providing all materials for this craft! All opinions and thoughts on this project are my own ;) }
Thanksgiving dinner and holiday parties season will be here in no time and I want to have a few delightful hostess’ gifts handy. Have you received a hostess gift in the past? The idea behind this project are the imminent Thanksgiving and holiday celebrations. I thought to myself not everybody is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner but most likely a few of us will go to a friend’s house or a close relative. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a few clutches made like the one I’m showing above as a hostess gift? In this clutch you could put a small box of chocolates or a gift card and show your appreciation to your hostess for cooking pretty much all day! Please take a look below at the materials I used and super easy tutorial with NO sewing involved!
- One 12×12 Burlap sheet in grey
- 12×12 canvas sheet in white
- A sharp pair of scissors
- Glue (Not shown)
- “Plain Jane” Matte Mist Watercolor in “Tangy Lime”, “Pure Steel” and “Butternut Squash”
- “Canvas Home Basics” Felt Pads
- 1/2 inch circle punch (my own)
Clicking “Get the Materials” will take you to “Craftistas” website. Craftistas are a group of amazing ladies that have put together a website where you can find and buy all the materials I used for this craft all at once! No more wondering where do I get this or find that. You can simply go to “Craftistas” and get everything you need now! How smart is that?
Tutorial
- Cut an 8×8″ square of grey burlap and a 7.75 x 7.75″ square of white canvas fabric.
- Apply glue to white canvas fabric like shown above
- Stick canvas fabric to burlap fabric and let it dry for 20 minutes
4: Apply glue to either top of the white canvas fabric, applying glue to the very top of the fabric and both sides. Please take a look at the photo above.
5: Fold burlap fabric
6: Once glue is dry, you will have a pouch
7: Grab another piece of white canvas fabric and spray “Plain Jane” watercolor mist to fabric. I sprayed the colors in this order: first pure steel, then tangy lime and third glimmer mist butternut squash. I waited for the ink to dry a good 4 hours.
8:Once the fabric was dry, I drew and cut a few circles of different sizes.
9: Cut a 6 inches long by 1 inch wide strip of grey burlap and punch burlap towards one end of the strip like shown on the picture above. If you don’t have a 1/2″ punch you can draw a small circle on the burlap and then cut the hole with scissors.
Here is the finished clutch. I used a brown felt pad for a button. So first I glued one of my painted canvas fabric circles to one side of my clutch evoking a flower. I glued the felt pad last. Following this I glued the strip of grey burlap on the other side of the clutch and once I folded it over the clutch it buttons perfectly with the brown felt pad I used.
I also made an ivory version of the same clutch I showed you above. This time I added an “adjustable knot bracelet” to make the pouch also work as a ‘wristlet”. I used ivory cord to make the “bracelet’ and I have a written tutorial on how to make an adjustable knot here. You’ll notice an ivory rosy pattern on this pouch. Do you know what this is? Is paper tape! I used a paper tape from “7 Gypsies Trousseau” set.
Materials for Ivory Clutch:
- 12×12 Burlap sheet in “Ivory”
- 12×12 Canvas sheet in “White”
- Felt Pads (you only need 1 container for felt pads if you decided to make both clutches)
- “Trousseau” Paper Tape Set
Would like to receive one of these as a gift! I sure would love to! I have made two pouches so far and I plan to make one more using a dark blue burlap. Thank you for reading and visiting my blog! I delight in sharing with you pretty and easy to make crafts!
