Dahlias are one of my favorite flowers and I am super excited to share with you this craft and tutorial. How have you been? Are you ready for Spring to be officially here? Have you done any spring crafts? I think one of the easiest ways to decorate a home is with flowers, and though dahlias are not in bloom yet, that didn’t stop me from adding some dahlias at home ;) Please take a look below and let me know your thoughts too!
Tutorial
The first time I attempted to make one of these “pom pom” flowers, I was pretty intimidated. Since Martha Stewart shared her tutorial on how to make these, these “pom poms” have been used as decorations for countless parties. Please view Martha’s tutorial here and trust me, they are very doable ;)
I used Tattered Angels watercolor mist ink for my project. The ink itself is not too “heavy” for the delicate tissue paper material. Mix Tattered Angels Simply Matte Mist Watercolor Ink in “Ruby Slipper” with Tattered Angels High Impact Pigment in “White”. Then I created three shades of hot pink. I started in the “center” of my flower and painted the top of the petals with the lightest shade of pink. Then I worked my way through the outer “petals” and used the “middle” shade of pink. Finally, I used the boldest pink for the very most outer petals on the flower. This craft was very relaxing, a little messy and fun!

Hi Ursula, These dahlias are so pretty! Happy Spring & thanks for sharing at the party @DearCreatives Hope this finds you well. Theresa ;)
Love your dahlias, so pretty and soft looking. I have some of the shimmer mist, would that work? I’ll have to look for ink products you used. The flowers are a great way to feature flowers in our homes til the weather makes up it’s mind.
I have a full notebook full of templates and ideas for paper flowers, another one for fabric flowers and another for felt flowers. It’s wonderful to find all the great ideas to make flowers on blog land. I subscribed to your blog and have pinned several of the projects you featured on Inspiration Gallery Link Party. Love the parties, get so many ideas without having to look for them. Glad to find your blog. Happy Spring days
Hello JaneEllen, I get SO excited when I read a comment like yours :) I love inspiring fellow crafters with new ideas and learning from each other! Thank you for pinning my projects on the Inspiration Gallery Linky ;) Also, you should totally get the inks I used! The colors are very vibrant and the ink itself is not heavy at all to use on tissue paper. I haven’t tried the shimmer mist on the tissue paper yet. I think it would add a nice shimmer “halo” to your flowers :)
These are gorgeous!! Thanks so much for sharing at our party! Pinning and sharing :)
Stopping back by to let you know I chose your beautiful Dahlias as one of my feature picks! You can see it here: http://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/25-adorable-and-whimsical-spring-projects/
