Have you ever been so excited about a craft you just can’t wait to start and finish it? I’m telling you; my heart was beating fast while I was figuring it out how to make this work.
A scarf made out leather? Why not? I thought to myself while I was staring at a beautiful white buttery soft piece of leather from Darby Smart’s shop. I’ve slowly delved into the scarf trend and owned a couple of scarfs. I’m pretty stoked with my new leather infinity scarf!
A cool evening in Spring provides the perfect occasion to wear a simple top, a leather scarf and my hair on a bun. This project took about 90 minutes from start to finish, and I’m very happy with the results.
Please take a look below for materials and tutorial and give it a try! Maybe you and I will start a leather scarf trend! ;)
Materials and Tutorial
- Start with the leather hide and measure an area of 32 inches wide by 105 inches tall.
- Use short scissors to cut through the leather. You will cut the rectangle (32″x105″) again in half. (Look at step 2 above).
- Turn 1 rectangle and divide one end of the leather in 6 equal parts. Use a pen or sharpie to mark each division with a dot.
- Punch through each dot a small hole (I used a screw punch).
- Use the “male” end of a silver stud and put it through the small holes.
- This photo shows all six silver studs in position. You will repeat step 3 through 6 with each end of the leather rectangle.
- Use the other rectangle with punched holes and position it on top of the rectangle with the male studs.
- Use the female stud to “snap” and close all six studs.
- This picture shows both leather rectangles with the female studs snapped.
- Use a hammer to secure each stud.
- Now the scarf is half way done. Repeat steps 6 through 10 with the other two ends of the scarf, thus creating an “infinity” scarf!
- Create a seam in the inside of the scarf with “liquid stitch”.
- The seam is approximately half an inch tall.
- Liquid stitch dries fast and now the scarf is completed.
