I am in full swing with Summer preparations for my home, excited to host BBQs and be outside. The number one item that I love to decorate my home with is flowers. We have awesome farmers markets around the area, and I love getting an abode of Dahlias or any other big and colorful flowers.
I found my vases during one of my Target runs, at the crafts section for kids. They were on sale, so I had to snag them! About a month later I decided to do something with them and while sketching a few ideas I came up with “stem” flower vases. First I thought of drawing and painting stems on to the vases. Then I thought how much easier would be to use washi tape to evoke a few stems and just paint the bottles with paint.
Tutorial
- First you will need a set of ceramic vases found at Target’s “crafts for kids” section.
- Use a thin washi tape to mask the “stems.”
- Picture “3” shows a vase masked with washi tape before I painted it and after I painted it.
- Let the paint dry for at least one hour and add a second coat of paint.
- Go get some blooms and start using these babies!
As you can see, I didn’t get a chance to buy flowers before I shot a few photos of my craft. We had one day of sunshine last week, and I had to take advantage of the great natural light I had in my little corner/studio at home. So I ended up adding a few flowers of my own ;) Two years ago I bought a few illustrations-clip-art from “The Ink Nest” and used one of their illustrations to create colorful flowers. You can view the original illustration here.
Can’t wait to get some flowers this weekend and put my new vases to use! Are you ready to make this craft? Head over to Target where you will find the ceramic vases and get started.
