When I sit down and look at my little office area, I want to change everything about it. I have many containers for different craft supplies, a few knickknacks in random wire baskets and metal boxes I bought a million years ago. The good thing: I do manage to find what I’m looking for – so I would call my little workshop/crafting area an “organized mess!”
So going back to when I look for a little crafting time, I have two options. First I can look at the state of my workspace and bemoan, “When will I have the time and money to re-do my office?” Or I can be content with the workspace I have and choose a few materials to make something fun and useful.
This time I chose the latter ;) It was the a long three-day weekend, and the hubs had extra time at home. I yelled from my office: “Hey, I’ll be in my crafting area, decompressing for a bit. Are you cool with the kids downstairs?” “Yes! It’s fine.” The hubs say.
And so I began to play with a gorgeous leather hyde I’ve wanted to put to good use.

DIY Leather Notebook Tutorial
First, I gathered a few materials: a small plain notebook, scissors, “liquid stitch” glue, one xActo knife and a pencil.
My idea? A simple leather-covered notebook to take notes for an upcoming “business” trip I have next week.
I measured my notebook and cut a leather rectangle to fit the cover of the notebook plus 3/4 of an inch extra on each side, except for the spine.
Then I covered the front of my notebook with “liquid stitch” making sure the glue was smeared in a smooth manner to avoid any “bubbling.”
Then I flipped my notebook and placed it on top of the leather rectangle I previously cut.
Once the glue was dried out, I made a small cut from each corner of the leather so I could “fold” the leather over the front of the notebook.
Finally, I added a black trim to the left of the cover using the same glue: “liquid stitch.”
Here it is! I worked on this craft for one hour and a half and was very relaxed with my finished project.
The leather I used can be found at Darby Smart shop, it is the softest leather I’ve used so far. The trim is from my local Ben Franklins craft store.
