The quickest and simplest DIYs are always the most satisfying for me. I made my new garland last weekend, between four soccer games, a birthday party and one wonderful dinner outing with loved friends.
Take a peek below to view materials and a visual tutorial.

Make a leather garland in under 10 minutes tutorial
I used EK Tools circle cutter and made seven circles of different sizes out of a beautiful white leather hide. (The circles measured between 1.5 and 2 inches in diameter.)
The leather hide I worked with is quite soft and on the thinner side. If you use a thicker leather, the circle cutter might not make it through.
Then I used a “gel roller” pen made for fabric and drew a few leaves, one leaf on each circle. I was inspired by these prints to draw my illustrations. (I practiced drawing a few leaves on a piece of paper before I drew on my leather circles.)
Finally, I used Martha Stewart screw punch to make two small holes at the top of each leather circle. Then I used a black raffia string for my garland.
My new garland is in my bedroom. Keeping it real, this is probably as much “decorating” I’ll do for the Fall, aside from my “vibrant pumpkins,” which are in my living room. I don’t need to say how busy I am, everyone is busy these days ;)
Don’t you just love white pumpkins? My small circular display is an unfinished shelf that I’m using to show a couple of my favorite pair of earrings. The best part of this DIY? I made my new leather garland in 10 minutes give or take, once you have all the materials ready to go.
What do you think? I always love hearing from you!
Yes, the simplest DIY projects are the best! Especially when they turn out that cute!. Love the idea of leather…gives a great contrast to the other items you have around it. Very nice!
Thank you dear! I’ve been working with leather quite a bit – so fun! Thank you for stopping by ;)
It’s just beautiful, Ursula!
Thank you, my dear! Fairly easy to make too :) I’d like to make so many in different colors!
