How I decorated for the Holidays with six modern crafts

How I decorated for the holidays with six modern crafts

Hello, guys! Winter is here, and we haven’t had a sunny day in a long time. Until yesterday, when the sun made its notable appearance for a couple of hours at the most, and I was able to shoot photos of my newly painted family room. Beyond excited to share these pics with you. In fact, this is the first time that I write a post about decorating at home. Why might you ask?

In all honesty, I think my house is far from being “decorated.”  I feel like I’ve been in the “trenches” of parenting with no energy left to focus on the house.  The hubs and I haven’t bought a piece of furniture in years, or painted any walls. Therefore, I haven’t been remotely excited to tackle any rooms, but now with a freshly painted family room, I can play around with a few of my crafts. Well, I’m just going to show you how I implemented six-holiday projects into my family’s room shelves. Maybe this post should be named: “Anatomy of a shelfie with six contemporary crafts.”  Here it goes. (Biting my nails a bit.)

From the top left, starting with the “DIY Peaceful Winter Scene” collage artwork, followed by an Advent calendar I put together last Christmas and then the mint boxes + trees, I was able to fill the top shelf with all three project but still retain an “uncluttered” look. I kept the bottom shelf with light elements: from left to right, DIY pumpkin leather vase, followed by wood blocks I made with mint and pink accents and my DIY watercolor Lips artwork.  Eeeek, I’m happy how it all turned out.

Simplicity was my primary goal when adding all six crafts into my family room’s shelves. We used to have a hunter green wall with white shelves, and the darkness of this color made the room gloomy and blah. Now with white walls, is a fresh start and I’m having fun adding the projects I’ve designed for the past couple of years.

You know I’ve been in a pastel mood and tried to create a whole pastel theme while doing this on a budget. Target had these lovely paper boxes in mint that I used as “pedestals” to show off my fave minty holiday trees.

What do you guys think? Have you added your crafting projects into your home decor? I think tackling a shelf is a good way to start without a big change commitment. Thank you for stopping by kraft&mint. Please tell me I’ve motivated you to decorate areas of your home with your crafts ;)

Love,

Ursula

I love the bright, pastel colors! It’s great to see a holiday festive room without the dark greens and reds. Beautiful job, Ursula!
